Children and instructors participating in a Wing Chun class

Help their confidence grow

The Mornington academy’s children’s programs are designed to improve focus, discipline, respect, concentration, coordination, reflexes, self-confidence and the ability to defend themselves. These skills can support children at school, at home and later in the workforce.

Coordinated Wing Chun movements engage both sides of the body, helping develop motor skills, hand–eye coordination, reflexes, memory and learning. As children build a training habit, they practise setting goals, working steadily, persisting and correcting unhelpful habits.

The academy’s instructors are certified under Master Joe Sayah and hold Working with Children checks. Parents are welcome to arrange a free trial class.

How Wing Chun works

A martial art built on technique, not strength

Wing Chun is a traditional Chinese martial art that teaches students to use balance, positioning, timing and efficient movement rather than relying on brute force.

These principles make Wing Chun an engaging martial art for children to learn. As students practise techniques and develop their coordination, they also have opportunities to build confidence, improve concentration and learn the importance of discipline and respect.

Classes provide a structured environment where children can develop their abilities at their own pace, with an emphasis on learning, participation and personal progress.
